What to Do When You've Had a Concussion
If you suspect you’ve had a concussion it is very important that you get checked out by a doctor. Rest is important immediately following a concussion, however, prolonged rest can slow the recovery process. Physical therapy can help you return to normalcy quicker and prevent chronic symptoms.
The Concussion Management Process
We use ImPACT testing to help determine the severity of your concussion and to create an appropriate treatment plan. If you have already taken a baseline ImPACT test, you will take the computerized ImPACT test again and results will be compared to your baseline. These results, in addition to a physical therapy evaluation, will direct the best treatment program for your concussion. Your physical therapist will collaborate with your doctor throughout the recovery process.
ImPACT Testing
What is ImPACT Testing?
ImPACT Testing stands for Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing. It is an FDA approved medical device that is widely used to help assess and manage concussions. ImPACT testing works by measuring visual memory, verbal memory, reaction time, and processing speed.
